High-profile cybersecurity threats and data breaches are so pervasive and sophisticated that the risks—and the response—go beyond an organization’s IT department. When it comes to safeguarding privacy, ensuring governance and regulatory compliance and protecting against criminal liabilities, the modern general counsel is stepping up as the key ally for stakeholders, especially in boardrooms and C-suites.
On June 15, 2023, WSJ Custom Events and FTI Consulting convened influential public and private sector speakers at the landmark New York Stock Exchange. As the world’s largest and most trusted equities exchange, NYSE was a fitting host to an event that gathered general counsels and senior leaders in legal, regulatory, ethics and compliance poised to ring in a new era of transparency and accountability in managing cyber risks and data breaches.
Decades of the private sector dealing with cyber incidents on its own are over. As cyberattacks increasingly pose systemic risks, governments are more aggressively stepping in. This session will lay out the regulatory and enforcement actions that should be top of mind for business leaders. We’ll discuss their impact on an organization's cybersecurity and data privacy postures and the general counsel’s role as the bridge between regulators and the C-suite.
